about poem-sharing

Posted by emily morgan thompson at 7:15 PM
Here's a poem I wrote in my head during my drive home today:

------------------------------------

One day you will hold me

One day you will hold me
so close I become
cityless,

after the earth
     has fallen to sea.

One day you will hold me
so all things lonely
become ghosts,

after I have seen my enemies flee

      after my bones have
      lifted off like
      question marks
      no longer in need.

One day you will hold me
as though
I was a lost,
precious thing.

One day you will hold me
and both of us
will sing.
